SOAR

Congratulations on your acceptance to UNC Charlotte! The SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising and Registration) program is designed to prepare students for their first semester at UNC Charlotte. Attendance at a SOAR program prior to arrival at UNC Charlotte will assist new students in making their first semester as successful as possible. Registration for courses, receiving academic advising and taking placement tests are some of the benefits of the SOAR program.

Before you proceed with registration for the SOAR program there are two things you will need to do: obtain your UNC Charlotte ID number, and access your 49er Express email account.

UNC CHARLOTTE ID number

Your UNC Charlotte ID number can be found on your acceptance letter from Undergraduate Admissions, or on the web at https://selfservice.uncc.edu. Please learn this number prior to your arrival at SOAR as it will be essential for placement testing, registration, advising, getting your UNC Charlotte ID card made, and many other new student activities.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
MATH PLACEMENT TEST
All incoming freshman must take a math placement exam at SOAR.
Transfer students need math credit(s) and who have not completed the equivalent of College Algebra (Math 1100), Pre-Calculus (Math 1103) or Calculus (Math 1120 or 1241) at another institution must take a placement examination to determine the appropriate entry-level Mathematics course for them. Students should refer to their evaluation of credit completed by the Undergraduate Admissions Office to determine how previous math credits transferred into the University. The Engineering Technology department requires all of their majors to take the test regardless of credit they are transferring in.
A practice test is available at http://www.math.uncc.edu/placement.

Beginning Fall semester, 2005, all students are required to either demonstrate proof of insurance or to purchase a Student Health Insurance Plan through UNC Charlotte Student Health Services. Full details may be found at
